They publish a lot of books every year in Calgary, but in 2009, none were better than Gordon Pengilly's Metastasis and Other Plays — at least, that's the opinion of the judges at the 2010 Calgary Awards, who awarded it the W.O. Mitchell Book Prize on Wednesday night. And, like seemingly every other book to win a major literary prize in Alberta this year, Metastasis was published by NeWest Press. 

It's been a pretty good week for the talented Mr. Pengilly; on Monday, the Manhattan Theatre Club presented a reading of his play Flesh and Ghost in New York City. Now, we don't know if you're aware of this or not, but apparently New York is kind of a theatre town. 

Congratulations, Gordon, and thank you, Calgary. You guys definitely know a good book when you see one.
