October 4 – Earlier today, in Toronto, the 2011 Giller Prize shortlist was announced. Six wonderful books were selected from the longlist of seventeen that was announced early last month. Sadly, Readers' Choice selection Extensions , by NeWest author Myrna Dey, did not advance to the shortlist.

Extensions tells the story of RCMP Constable Arabella Dryvynsydes and the mystery behind a sepia photograph of her grandmother and her twin sister taken in 1914 in the mining town of Extension, BC, which somehow ends up at a garage sale in rural Saskatchewan almost one hundred years later. Now in its third printing, Dey’s debut novel gracefully moves between two time periods, bridging one family’s past and present, and unearthing heartbreaking truths along the way, to resolve a century-old murder.

NeWest would like to extend our thanks to Myrna for being such a gracious nominee, the Giller Prize jury for giving us such an amazing opportunity, and most of all, the many readers across the country who showed their support and voted for Extensions in the Readers' Choice polls.
