| A Voice Not Taken Away |

It seems a poet's voice can still be heard even after death. Especially a voice as distinctive and ambitious as Pat Lowther's. In a recent article by Keven Drews of the Westcoaster.ca, Lowther's daughter Christine describes the ways in which her mother's words continue to reach her through The Collected Works of Pat Lowther, the comprehensive collection of Lowther's poetry published by Newest Press in the spring of 2010. The book has allowed her to further know and understand her mother, whose life was cut short when Chris was only eight years old. In the article, Chris asserts, "we're raising her voice again... we're being able to share her words again, her voice that he tried to take away from her, but failed, of course." NeWest Press is proud to have been a part of this project. We know that Lowther's voice continues to be a strong one in Canadian poetry, and are delighted to continue to share her words so long after her death.
