   Kooteney Radio Interview

"Abdou’s writing reaches its pinnacle in the beautifully conveyed scenes in which Sadie and Digger swim or wrestle. With a background in competitive swimming, Abdou’s grasp of a prose that perfectly captures the merging of the body and the water, seems perfectly natural. ... The Bone Cage extends past sport, exploring the tentative relationship between people and their bodies."  —Canadian Literature

Excerpt

After a severe winter storm and extended power failure, thousands become trapped in their homes during one of the coldest weeks of the year. For one small group of people, thrown together by catastrophe, a state of anxiety and claustrophobia follows as they discover no precautions have been made for a disaster of this magnitude. When the darkness and cold stretch on, endurance turns to despair and plans for survival begin to emerge as Fred, a fifteen-year-old boy from England, is forced to take charge in unpredictable ways.

A big congratulations to Theanna Bischoff, whose novel Cleavage has been shortlisted for The ReLit Awards.

Cleavage, Theanna's first novel, chronicles the life of twenty-four year old Leah who discovers she has breast cancer. It has already been well received, including a spot on the short list for The Commonwealth Writer's Prize, and the BPAA's Best Book Design Award earlier this year.
