The Little Green Initiative Reviews PDF Print

On Tuesday, November 10 2009, 100 book review bloggers will simultaneously publish their book review of a "green" book of their choice. This unique campaign, organized by Eco-Libris , aims to encourage both publishers and readers to get greener and make sure books are printed responsibly.

Over 35 publishers from the U.S., Canada and the U.K. are taking part in this campaign, providing participating bloggers with their latest books printed on recycled paper and FSC-certified paper for review.

NeWest Press is included on the list, as a publisher who strives to protect our Home Place, with full knowledge of the toll that publishing can take on the environment. The text paper used for printing all of our latest books is acid-free, 100% old growth forest-free (100% post-consumer recycled).

NeWest Press also published books focused on the understanding and preservation of the environment, such as Salal by Laurie Ricou, and the upcoming release of Stephen Legault 's The Darkening Archipelago .

NeWest Press is pleased to announce that The Cardinal Divide: A Cole Blackwater Mystery has been shortlisted for the Canadian Rockies Award at the 2009 Banff Mountain Book Festival . The award is presented annually to the best book about the Canadian Rockies.

Written by long-time Bow Valley, Alberta resident, author, and activist Stephen Legault, The Cardinal Divide is the story of down-and-out environmental consultant Cole Blackwater, who is hired by a band of local activists trying to stop the dig of a massive open-pit mine next to Jasper National Park. When the mine manager is brutally murdered just days after Cole takes the job, Cole must face his ever-present demons, exonerate a friend of the grisly murder, and find the real killer—all to save the Cardinal Divide.
