Betty Jane Hegerat  Betty Jane Hegerat earned a BA from the University of Alberta, and an MA of Social Work from the University of Calgary. In addition to being a social worker and a mother of three, Hegerat also teaches courses at the Alexandra Writers’ Centre in Calgary and is an avid rose-gardener. Her work has been featured in several literary publications, such as the NeWest Review, the Toronto Star, and Alberta Views, and has won numerous prestigious writing competitions. Hegerat currently lives in Calgary and is working towards an MFA in Creative Writing through the University of British Columbia. Her first novel, Running Toward Home, was published in the Fall of 2006.
