Robert Budde

Robert Budde was born in Minneapolis, Minnesota and has lived in Alberta, Ontario, and the Northwest Territories. His first published book is a work of poetry entitled Catch as Catch. His first novel, Misshapen, began as a creative dissertation at the University of Calgary and was short-listed for the McNally-Robinson Book of the Year Award in 1998. It was primarily researched at the University of Wisconsin at the Circus World Museum.

Rob Budde completed his PhD in Creative Writing at the University of Calgary, moving on to teach Creative Writing and Postcolonial Literature at the University of Northern BC. He has also taught at the University of Winnipeg and the University of Manitoba. He has published six books—two other novels, The Dying Poem, and Flicker (short fiction), and three poetry collections, Catch as Catch, traffick, and Finding Ft. George

In 2002, Budde facilitated a collection of interviews, In Muddy Water: Conversations with 11 Poets. He has  been a finalist for the John Hirsch Award for Most Promising Manitoba Writer.
