John Bell was born in Jasper, Alberta and developed a love of the outdoors in his early years. In 1983, after attending the Univeristy of Alberta in Emonton, he traveled to Europe and Northern Africa. His trip to Southeast Asia in 1994 lasted four months and inspired the memoir The Green Light of Sunset. (NeWest 2000). His love of travel has translated into a life-long career as a tour guide, beginning as a guide of the Columbia Icefields, south of Jasper. The author currently lives and works in Vancouver, B.C.
