 Angie Abdou

angieabdouAngie Abdou was born and raised in Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan. She has a Ph.D. in Canadian Literature and Creative Writing from the University of Calgary and teaches at the College of the Rockies. She lives in Fernie, BC with her husband and two children. Abdou has been speed swimming since the age of four and currently competes at the Masters level.

Angie's first book Anything Boys Can Do—a collection of short stories—was published in 2006. Abdou has also contributed to many magazines and periodicals, including Other Voices, The Harpweaver, The Windsor Review, Spring and Grain Magazine. The Bone Cage, published in July 2007 by NeWest Press has already seen several printings. In the fall of 2009, The Bone Cage was the featured book in the One Book One Kootenay reading campaign, an 8-week literary marathon during which the author/athlete visited 14 communities in the Kootenay region and made 15 presentations. In November 2010, The Bone Cage was selected as one of the five finalists for the 2011 Canada Reads competition, defended by former NHL enforcer and current Deputy Leader of the Green Party of Canada, Georges Laraque. Angie's newest book, The Canterbury Trail, was released in February 2011 by Brindle & Glass Publishing.
