Wonderfull wins!

Wonderfull by William Neil Scott is WINNER of the Trade Fiction of the Year Award at the 2008 Alberta Book Publishing Awards! We couldn't have won this honour without William Neil Scott's magical talent, Thomas Wharton's editorial finesse, and Virginia Penny's sublime design.

Congratulations to Neil (and the Garfaxians)!

We'll see you there: BookExpo Canada 2008

Preparations for BookExpo Canada 2008 are underway as we prepare for our spaces at the Literary Press Group's booth: one for NeWest and one for our fabulous Fictionistas titles, along with Coteau Books.

This year Theanna Bischoff will appear at the Fictionistas space to sign copies of her first novel, Cleavage, about a 24-year-old woman diagnosed with breast cancer. Her signing takes place on Monday, June 16 at 2 pm. Also being given away are "C-cups" -- visit the LPG booth to find out more.

Fictionistas is back!

It's so not about the shoes.
Find out about NeWest events as they're scheduled; bookmark this page and remain updated on author events happening in your area.

In response to the growing genre of books aimed at smart, savvy women, we felt a need to provide an alternative to the current 'chicklit' trend -- and FICTIONISTAS was born!

FICTIONISTAS is a unique reading series for female writers of literary fiction and their readers. Seven literary presses have joined forces this season to form this cosmopolitan collective: NeWest Press, Vehicule Press, Turnstone Press, Thistledown Press, Signature Editions, Brindle & Glass, and Coteau Books. Here's what we have booked in June for our savvy Spring authors:

City: Vancouver Montmartre Cafe (4362 Main Street) Thursday, June 5th at 7 pm
Authors: Daphne Marlatt as MC, Dawn Bryan from NeWest Press (Gerbil Mother), Meredith Quartermain from NeWest Press (Vancouver Walking AND upcoming title Nightmarker), Dede Crane from Coteau Books (The Cult of Quick Repair)

City: Toronto Victory Cafe (581 Markham Street) Thursday, June 19th at 7 pm
Authors: Theanna Bischoff from NeWest Press as MC (Cleavage), Dede Crane from Coteau Books (The Cult of Quick Repair), Shari Lapena from Brindle & Glass (Things Go Flying), Laura Lush from Turnstone Press (Going to the Zoo), Linda Leith from Signature Editions (The Desert Lake)

Hope to see you at an event in your city!

New Faces of Literature

The unveiling of new covers is like finally putting a face to a name, a sort of "So that's what you look like" moment. We're delighted to reveal our Fall 2008 books and their fresh faces -- so you can get to know them a little better. (Visit www.newestpress.com for a first-name basis encounter.)
